johnmcdonald > Like I said, it was exhausting. We eventually got to Blanding, but the motel where I'd made reservations had a handwritten note on the door, saying they were taking the weekend off for their anniversary. So we went to a different motel.

johnmcdonald > Our ride on day 2 was 88 miles from Blanding to Hite Marina, with a side trip to Natural Bridges National Monument ("B" on the map) to get water. Our motel said it had continental breakfast at 6:30, but when we went to the office at that time, the door was locked and the night manager was asleep on a couch. So we had to go to a grocery store and get some stuff, and by the time we got going, it was close to 8 a.m.

johnmcdonald > This is on HIghway 95 west of Blanding, our first taste of interesting rock formations.

johnmcdonald > Here's Ken riding up a hill. There isn't much shoulder on highway 95, but we didn't need one, as one car went by every 10 minutes or so.

johnmcdonald > Here I am riding through an amazing road cut.

johnmcdonald > We took a break just the other side of the road cut.

johnmcdonald > In the 80 miles of highway 95 between Blanding and Hite Marina, the only buildings are the Natural Bridges visitor center (4 miles off the highway) and the Fry Canyon store (open at unpredictable times).

johnmcdonald > We climbed about 2000 feet to here, but it wasn't too bad at any point.
