Bev and I go amphipod hunting.

johnmcdonald > Bev and I left Seattle for Florence, on the Oregon coast, our base for a few more days of amphipod hunting. We went to the Darlingtonia Botanical Wayside, just north of Florence, and admired the pitcher plants.

johnmcdonald > We looked down from an overlook just north of Sea Lion Cave and saw some sea lions.
johnmcdonald > This beach, at Winchester Bay on the Umpqua River estuary, has lots of amphipods.
johnmcdonald > Here's a bunch of amphipods (Megalorchestia californiana) eating seaweed at night.
johnmcdonald > Bev had to come back earlier than me, so I took her to the Portland airport. On the way back to the coast, I took some small roads from Eugene to Reedsport. I want to go bicycling there some day; the scenery is great, and there's almost no one out there.
