If this were in Maryland, it would have been the first national monument, and people would come from miles around to see it. Here it's just a couple of rocks by the side of the highway.
We passed a couple of national chain hotels that were isolated in the desert about 2 miles east of Torrey, and I'm very glad we didn't stay in them. Instead, we stayed in the Capitol Reef Inn and Cafe. We got there at about 1, and as I was putting my key in the door, I felt the first drop of rain. Then the sky opened up and we had a huge thunderstorm. It was warm enough that riding in the rain wouldn't have been bad, but the lightning would have been scary. The cafe was an excellent restaurant, and we had lunch and dinner there.
